The framing of the house is almost finished. Since last week the framers have gotten most of the details done that were yet to be completed. It looks like they have a little more siding to put up still. I would imagine that they will finish it today and if not today then definitely tomorrow.
With the framing finished it is now time to start painting. I have taken the responsibility of completing this portion of the job myself. I am trying to get the eaves painted by the beginning of next week before the roofers start. This is would have been easier if we had not just got a bunch of rain. I am afraid to drive the bucket truck in the mud because it might get stuck. Last night I started caulking everything. Hopefully tonight I get a lot more of the caulking done. Then maybe I can paint the eaves on Thursday. I think that it is supposed to rain Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Just my luck.

Windows
Sorry I haven't posted for a few days. It has been a pretty busy schedule around here. That is a good thing though. The framing crew has been moving right a long. It is scary how fast this is going. Everyone told me this is how it would go though. They said the outside of the house would fly along then it really slows down when they start doing the inside.
On Friday last week they finished putting the roof on and got roofing paper on it. Monday they put the covered porch on the back of the house, and yesterday they wrapped the house and put in doors and windows. The good thing is it is really going fast, the bad thing is that this weekend my builder is saying it will be time for us to start painting. I guess we will just have to think of the money we are saving as we are painting. Here are some photos of the progress.

Raise the Roof
Yesterday was another good day for the framing crew. Most of the bonus room is now framed in and the roof was all framed. Today they were hoping to get all of the decking on the roof and felt paper it before the rain comes. I will see if they got that done when I get home tonight I guess. Here are some photos of the progress.

Tall Garage
Since Monday the framing crew has been cruising right along on the house. It is really starting to take shape. We can now see where all of the rooms. They also got the garage framed, started on the bonus room, started on the roof, and started putting the outside sheeting on.
The crew has moved the fireplace so it is now centered in the great room, it looks much better now. They still need to fix the closet in the half bath, and we noticed a mistake in the master bath on how they framed the shower. They will need to fix that as well.
I am now really excited that the garage is framed. It is huge!! Or at least it is very tall which makes it seem very large. The ceiling must be about 14 feet high. They had to keep the ceiling even with the first floor and since the house floor level is so much higher than the garage it has made for a tall garage. I have been kidding Carey that we could put a car lift in it.
We are also getting into the stage of the house build where we are having to pick things out. We went and picked out our fireplace insert and log set on Tuesday evening. It wasn't quite as exciting as I thought it might be. The logs we are getting are going to look much better than what we have now, but still not as real looking as what I was hoping for. It isn't really the logs so much as the insert. I was hoping that we wouldn't really have an insert but more of a real fireplace. We picked one that we could cover the face with the stone that we are using for the fireplace, that way it won't be as noticeable.
Here are some photos of the progress.

Still Framing
Friday and Saturday the framing crew continued to work on the house. They made good progress and we can really see what the layout is going to look like. The first floor is now all framed other than the garage. Here are some photos from the weekend.
Here is a photo of my nephew and Garrett standing outside what will be the basement doors.
Here are pictures of the boys in their bedrooms.
A few more photos.
Our builder has told us that we should be in by June 15th. So we are looking for the next two months to go by quick. He told us we need to plan on painting the outside in 2 weeks. It is hard to believe that the outside will be ready to paint in 2 weeks.
We did notice a couple of things looking at the framing though. One was that our fireplace is not centered in the in the front room. The other is that there is a dead space about 3' by 4' in the half bath next to the closet. I have talked to the builder about both and they will be fixed. The fireplace was not supposed to be framed until after we picked out the log set. The space in the half bath will be added to the closet space and a pocket door inserted.
